New Year Journal Prompts
Another new calendar year is upon us, and it’s hard to ignore the weight of the complexities and challenges we are presently faced with as a society. Yet, amidst these challenges, there’s a glimmer of hope ever present of the possibilities available to us - individually and collectively.
I hold the new year as I do life - with open expectation for wonderful things to unfold and healthy pragmatism of the shit hitting the fan. With a commitment to using my privilege as a force for good.
There is something about a fresh year that is the perfect time to reflect, review and prepare for a new chapter.
So I thought I would share the journal prompts that have helped me see in 2024 with more intention:
What were my top moments in 2023 and why?
How have I grown/ changed this past year physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially and in relationship/ community?
What worked?
What didn’t?
What do I want to do differently this year?
It’s been super interesting to reflect on my answers from this time last year (I scan in my journals and save them on the cloud so I can easily retrieve them). In fact, I spent time yesterday creating space for change and scanned in old journals and decluttered around the house - a fantastic thing to do at any time but it’s especially potent to call in change this new year.
I have seen huge lists of journal prompts circulating on socials. But I gotta be honest, I find it too overwhelming when faced with a long list that my brain seizes and I sit paralysed and don’t write anything. I've found that the questions above are just the right amount to help me embody my desire for minimalism and simplicity, and to actually follow through with them.
However, I spent a really fun afternoon with my friend Ess who had a ton of different reflections for thought provoking insights. We pulled random ones and shared them with one another. Here are some of them that they posted on their socials - you can follow them over on Instagram (they’re a great therapist if you’re looking for one).
Perhaps you may like to gather some friends and do what we did and reflect together - super bonding!
The key is to find what works for you and carve out the time for some solitude to connect inwards and be honest with yourself.
Then take radical responsibility and make a plan for how you want to do things differently this year.
l have more to say about how to set yourself up for success on your intentions on the podcast when it relaunches. So stay tuned - next episode drops 11 January. You can follow on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or RSS.
May your reflections this year light your way forward, leading you to grow and feel alive in a life filled with beauty, meaning, and magic.
May this journey also renew your commitment to creating ripples of positive change - the world needs you shining your light now more than ever.
