Receiving divine guidance in your dreams
Last night I dreamt of soaring mountains and going on an exploration with a group of us all travelling deep underneath the mountains.
The dream ended with the head of the exploration suggesting we apply for an award for mindfulness, as it was so key to surviving the exploration we undertook.
The image of the mountains has lingered with me all morning.
As I journalled, the insight emerged that the mountains represent the vastness of my soul and spiritual self - and how mindfulness is so key to understanding and connecting with that part of myself more deeply.
And of course, I was with a group - so many of us on this exploration. You’re on this journey with me too if you’re reading this!
I’ve been utterly fascinated with my dream life for the longest time.
When we sleep, we slip out of our physical consciousness and merge back into the oneness. We also enter a complex dream state that can help us make sense of our lives.
Dreams can provide us with important information, insights and guidance. They can help us understand our emotions, confront our fears, and even solve problems.
They can also be a way for our guides and ancestors to communicate with us (I treasure the dreams when my dad visits me!).
Here are some top tips to help you unpack your dreams:
Keep a dream diary
One of the most effective ways to tap into the power of dreams is by keeping a dream diary.
Keep a notebook beside your bed. I have a special journal to record mine.
Then take some quiet time when you wake up, reflecting on what you remember and record what you recall.
Don’t worry if your recollection is patchy and imperfect!
The more you practice recording your dreams, the better you will become at recalling them.
Make time to reflect first thing
Dreams can be slippery f**kers and can disappear super quickly from your mind after you wake up.
So before you do anything else, or speak or pick up your phone, keep your eyes closed and ask yourself:
“what do I need to remember or know from my dreams last night?”
Then give space for some quiet contemplation.
Interpret their meaning
Dreams speak to us in metaphors. So while you can look up general meanings from dream interpretation sites/books, the most valuable thing to do is ask yourself:
“What does this particular thing mean to me?”
Pay attention to every detail (what you’re doing, each person etc) and consider what each element symbolises to you.
e.g. You dream of Aunt Mary - what does she symbolise to you? She could be daring authenticity, courage, ambitious, or honest. Or she might represent unrealised dreams as she speaks about what she wished she could have done or been in this life.
Where were you most emotional?
Pay close attention to the parts of your dream where you have heightened emotion - there is an important message for you there.
It could be when you most happy or it could be when you were most challenged.
What was happening then? And what does each part symbolise? When you start to paint the picture like that, suddenly your dream takes on
a completely different shape and meaning.
Then jot down any emerging thoughts, emotions and insights about this part of the dream and what it could be telling you.
