Rejection is divine protection
For nine years, my university contracts were my steady anchor. They were the reliable salary that made it possible for me to fund my bigger dreams on the side - my coaching, my healing, my nonprofit work, my biz Soul Strategies.
Until one day in January 2020, they unexpectedly and suddenly weren’t...
I found out my contract wasn’t being renewed on the final day of it.
One day’s notice.
No safety net.
Shit. Are you f'ing kidding me?
Of course, I had the usual reactions - shock, disbelief, anger, anxiety. I watched it all come up in waves over the following hours.
I sat with presence to all those big feelings.
Eventually later that night, my nervous system found calm again.
Because I knew deep down:
→ The Universe always has my back.
→ Rejection is Divine protection.
→ What’s meant for me will never pass me by.
The very next day I drove to a one-day consultancy gig with Sprung!!, the disability dance company I’d worked with before.
On my first day unemployed, I had a little paid work. It was a small but symbolic reassurance that life was still flowing.
And then the offers of more hours with Sprung!! trickled in.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Enough to pay rent;
enough to trust that I was held.
It also made my plans to travel with my beloved Hana when her visa ended in March 2020 (yeah, that March) so much easier. I thought I’d be off for an extended holiday in the UK (via Bali), housesitting and getting stuck back into creating for Soul Strategies.
But then the pandemic hit.
And what unfolded next was one of most Divinely orchestrated chapters of my life - being asked to manage Sprung!! while the Founder, an ER doctor, stepped into working full-time at a hospital.
That role became two years of remote work that carried me while the borders were shut tight and expanded my leadership skills exponentially.
Looking back, I marvel.
If my uni contract had been renewed, I wouldn’t have been free to pick up more work with Sprung!!, which made it possible for me to take on managing the organisation.
The threads were already weaving long before I knew what was happening.
And that’s the thing about endings and rejections...
They look brutal up close, but in hindsight, you see how perfectly they redirect you.
