Roe v Wade - What it means for our callings

I can't stop thinking about the historical overturning of federal protection for the right to abortion for women and people who can get pregnant in America.

It's not just because I accessed an abortion when I was 16 years and wouldn't have had the education and opportunities I've had if I was forced to have the child.

It's not just because of the racism, ableism and classism of the decision that will proportionally affect the marginalised and disadvantaged more.

It's not just because of the shock and horror to see how fragile the rights of women, non-binary, trans and coloured folk are in this world (and acknowledging how many around the world are suffering under oppressive regimes).

It's because I also see this as a moment in history that is shaking people into action.

We are living through one of the greatest moments on the planet.
A crumbling and dismantling of the patriarchy and old, archaic systems.
And an emergence of love, equality and justice.

Already I see Americans urging one another to get more politically active.
To vote.
To run for office.
To no longer remain apathetic and disengaged,
because politics affects lives.

Power for too long has been held by privileged white men.

The recent election in Australia was the first time I volunteered for a political party.
It was for a candidate I fully believed in - Mandy Nolan, a mother of 5 and comedian by trade, and smart and outspoken feminist.

God I want to see Mandy, and others like her, in parliament so much.
So I helped.
I got up and got involved.
Because we cannot sit as a bystanders to this moment in history.
If we don't act, then the destruction and devastation will continue.

The greatest callings emerge from the greatest challenges.

So if you are called to act,
whether you are in the USA or not,
follow the impulse.
Follow the wave of energy that is generated when these moments come.
And get involved.

No matter how big or small,
it all makes a difference.

There will be more moments like this.
We are in for a rocky road.
But as each moment comes,
it's an opportunity for us to take action to correct things.
To right the wrongs.
To fight and work for the better world we want to see.

Because no-one else is coming to save us
(although an army of angels are supporting us).
